Left is never right (The Rakhi Sawant of Indian Polity)

August 23, 2007

I do not understand how the CPI, CPM and other left leaders look at each other in the eye. “I am stupid and so are you. Let’s just pretend we don’t know that!” They are about to bring down the government on an issue which will go forward anyway whether the Cong comes to power or not. The only way that the 123 agreement will not be ‘operationalised’ is if the CPI comes to power with a clear majority. And that’s like asking for… something plain impossible.

I do not understand why they are throwing tantrums over the 123 agreement. I have the following arguments against the left.

1) The left is objecting to a clause in the Hyde Act which gives the US President overriding powers over and above the guidelines that India is currently toeing. Dude, the Act gives them power over something that they are still negotiating giving us. How is not signing it helping your cause?

2)They can revoke the agreement if India tests a nuke. Agreed, but do you understand under what circumstances a country tests its nuke? When there is an emergency of sorts. We do not care about the consequences of the 123 agreement if India is under a real threat. We care about the power needs of India when it is in the business-as-usual state, you hypocrites!

3) Have you read the 123 agreement between China and US? It is almost similar. Except that they have a two-way revocation clause, while India does not. Comrades, please also check what they are gaining in return is much less than what India would. The reason: China ‘s per capita consumption of power is 1100 kwh and India’s is 600kwh. Also if you forgot to read the papers in the last, say 18 months, let me tell you that the prices of hydrocarbons are increasing and will only rise in future! If you want to build a real economy with strong domestic consumption, we need this.

Comrades, please stop throwing these tantrums and come-up with a real solution that is value-based on values-based. Think logically or is it asking for too much.

you hit the nail on the head with the last statement. The Left stops thinking logically at the mention of the word ‘USA’

    The advice here:
    http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/SuspendHowto

worked for me on a T30. Quoting the pertinent part…

    Quote:
To enable APM on a system, edit your /etc/modules file and add apm to the list of modules. Also, edit the #kopt line of your /boot/grub/menu.lst file so that it ends with apm=on, and then run sudo update-grub to update the GRUB configuration. Finally, add the modules shpchp and pciehp to the end of the /etc/hotplug/blacklist file (they don’t work w/APM)

Note that the bit about running update-grub is unnecessary. The key to stopping the failing modules from loading is the blacklist.
